I thought the Podcast was very well done and thorough. Both Adam and Shoshana went through very important issues that needed to be addressed. Personally, I have researched a lot about this topic, but even so, the podcast enhanced my understanding of processed meat and sugars. I have heard of the World Health Organization’s article, but I never fully read it. On the Podcast, when I heard that eating 50g of processed meat a day raised your chances of cancer to 18%, I was completely shocked – but, I am a bit skeptical. Does this research mean you have a 18% chance of developing cancer any time during your life? How many years of eating 50g of processed meat per day will equal to a 18% increase? When you were talking about the comments on the article, you mentioned that many of them were negative and disagreed with the article. You then said that it doesn’t matter whether you disagree with the article or not, the point is that one has to acknowledge the information. I thought this point Adam and Shoshana made is very important. Just because you disagree with someone or some thing, this does not mean you should not listen to them at all. The information is there for you to learn. The sugar segment of the Podcast was also very interesting. The research conducted with the obese children was fascinating. I liked the fact that Shoshana pointed out that they switched the sugars with starches, which, in turn, made them healthier, but they didn’t lose weight. Even if you’re making your “waistline smaller,” this does not necessarily mean that you’re any healthier. You could be losing weight the wrong way. That was something I never really thought about before. Furthermore, when Adam spoke about losing weight and counting calories, he mentioned quality over quantity. I thought this was a very important lesson. Care more about what you are putting into your body, instead of how much. Overall, I enjoyed the Podcast and learned more than I expected. Thank you for sharing.
