Here is a great article and infograph about the importance of natural movement.

Americans sit a lot. Between the car, desk, and couch, most adults are in a chair for 13 hours a day,1 and our kids are less active than they’ve ever been.23 For a long time, health experts prescribed regular bouts of exercise to counteract our otherwise sedentary ways. But a growing body of research suggests exercising several times a week is not the real solution.

First of all, 80 to 95 percent of adults don’t actually get the two and a half hours of moderate aerobic exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week recommended by the government.45 More alarmingly, those who do are still at risk for health problems if they’re inactive for long periods during the rest of the week.6

Our bodies are not designed to be sedentary.7 All people – fitness buffs or not – need to get more of the varied, all-day movement that was naturally part of daily life for people of past generations. Read on for ways to incorporate more movement into daily life.
