Everyone starts in a different place. Performance can be a very broad term. Performance can relate to any aspect of one’s life, be it fitness, education, nutrition, business or life itself. We need to help others unlock their potential by realizing that they hold the keys to be able to optimize performance for themselves. These are simply 5 of my keys…everyone is different and you need to find your own keys in life to help you unlock your full potential to optimize your own performance.
Key #1: Nutrition
Nutrition is probably the foundation to optimal performance for any human being. This refers to healthy, clean eating. For me that comes in the form of eating whole plant-based foods. If all you do is stay away from processed foods and sugar, it will instantly change your life and help protect you from so many chronic diseases.
Key #2: Exercise
This is vital to overall health. As we age it becomes even more important in maintaining strong, healthy bones. Keep in touch with your body and you will reap the benefits of a healthy mind as well.
Key #3: Sleep
There is something to be said about quality sleep. It is a big misconception that the number of hours (quantity) of sleep is what’s important. Recovery is essential in order to be the best we can be in all aspects of life. Our bodies recover from our daily stresses while we sleep. Make sure to have a good mattress and pillow to benefit from a truly quality sleep.
Key #4: Mindfulness
Living in the moment is truly something that we all need to put more emphasis on. This enables us to build good habits, learn more about ourselves and be grateful for what we have. Our time is of great value and we must use it wisely. As the great wise Gandalf once said: “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
Key #5: Visualization
This is a stem from believing you can achieve. I like to see myself going through the motions and watching myself becoming successful. This is a tool that is often under-used or forgotten. Using images, creating a vision board and journaling are excellent ways to promote optimal performance.
I think it’ll be very interesting to see what other keys people hold and use in their lives.
