I was at an event yesterday morning where a really cool thing happened to me.
I was approached by a very close friend of the family and asked if I’d be interested in going for a bike ride with him. He went on to say that he really wanted to complete a 30 mile bike ride…which he had never done before. The most he’d done was maybe 24 miles – a couple years ago (and I was with him for that one too). This probably sounds like no big deal to you, but to me, it actually really was a big deal.
If you go back and read my blog, “The Power of Positive“, you’d know that one of the many things I strive for in my life is to be around and interact with positive people. To me this simple request was actually much more complex that you may think.
First of all, on my training schedule for the day was a one hour easy bike ride. His request was 30 miles of biking which is equivalent to 48 kilometers…which would take me closer to 2 hours to complete on my own.
Second of all, this friend of the family is 75 years old!
Let me tell you something, when a 75 year old man wants to do a bike ride with me…saying “no” just isn’t an option! Not only does it amaze me that man of this age wants to ride with me, but he is a very well established successful businessman, family man and very well known in his community. This is a man that provides inspiration for many people on a regular basis. For him to want to do his first 30 mile ride with me was an honor!
Of course I said yes, not only because he wanted to ride with me, but so that I could somehow perhaps absorb some of his success through osmosis while on my bike. To inhale any positive energy he could provide me with and any words of wisdom he could pass on to me…there was no way I could pass up this opportunity.
Now I tell this short story to refocus you on the following…
Inspiration is all around us. It is in the people we connect with, the air we breathe, the environment we live in and even in the food we eat. While today I found inspiration in a riding partner, yesterday I found inspiration in the mountains I ran through, while the other day it was in my 6 year old son who was able to pace me on his bike for my 8 kilometer run.
Encompass yourself with positive people and things – the most amazing things will start to happen to you in your life.
Find the thing or things that inspire you. It can be something big or something small, something complex or the simplest thing. The more inspired you are the more you will be able to inspire others.
This morning’s bike ride inspired me and perhaps this blog post has provided some inspiration for one of my readers.
Oh and in case you were wondering…
we completed 50 kilometers (which is just over 31 miles) and he was so happy that
he thanked me for helping him fulfill one of his fantasies!
Go find your inspiration…and feel free to share!
