As a homeschooling mother, I would be very interested to know, having just listened to this podcast, why it is that Julie is sending her two daughters (8,12) to school this year. She sounds so sure of homeschooling being the right thing for her family, yet just months later, she has decided to not just be more structured, but going all the way across the spectrum to sending her two younger children to school.
Hi Maria,
Although we cannot answer for Julie, I can tell you what I understand from conversations both on air and off air. This is an extremely unique school that she has an opportunity for her girls to attend. It is not just your average public or private school. I do know that if she felt that her children or the family values were being compromised she would go back to homeschooling. Please remember that this is OUR interpretation of talking with her. I will contact her and see if I can get an answer for you. Thanks for the question and for listening to the show!
Hi Maria,
Here is a response from Julie Piatt to your question:
“Rich and I are in community with MUSE, an environmental school founded by James and Suzy Cameron that feature plant based home grown foods and an open system for supporting children in their process. They urged us to join them as we share many values and life purpose.
After homeschooling for so many years, my schedule has become busy with the work that Rich and I are doing- books, podcasts, retreats etc. I agreed to try MUSE for one year. So far, the girls are loving it. MUSE is passion based and innovative in their teaching style. They embrace individuality.
If mandatory vaccinations are imposed -a law recently passed in California subjecting kids to 69 vaccinations, I will bring them home again.
My older boys, their girlfriends, nephew and friend are all living with us in community. My guess is that in a few years, our homeschool will begin again with the next wave of young children. i haven’t given up or changed my mind about it. I still believe it is a great way to live more connected lives.
Hope that helps…”
