In today’s episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast we share a very special interview. While we were down in Florida on vacation Shoshana took some time to talk with her 93-year-old grandmother, Irene Epstein, to talk about longevity. Not so many people are fortunate to live such a long independent life. We wanted to dig deep into the physical and mental activities that can help keep us all sharp as we age.
Today’s episode uses some Yiddish vocabulary you may not all be familiar with. So here is a reference for you:
Mishpachah – family
Bubbie – grandmother
Zaidy – grandfather
Bar/Bat Mitzvah – coming of age ceremony
Nachas – feeling of pride
Shabbat – Friday night rituals like Blessing candles, wine and bread
Simchas- family celebrations like births, Bar Mitzvahs and weddings
We hope you enjoy the show!
In this episode we discuss:
- Who is Irene?
- Daily routine
- Diet in Old Poland
- Diet throughout the rest of her life
- Exercise
- Staying active
- Staying mentally sharp
- How to deal with disappointment in life
- Being and staying independent
- Retirement
- What keeps her going

Wonderful brought tears to my eyes. So lucky to have this amazing bubby in your life. I always know her as a very strong women who was able to continue on in her life after the loss of her husband. She has accomplished so much and has been so successful. May she continue to be an inspiration to u all.
However I just felt she didn’t talk about her spiritually which I think has been an important part of her life
