Not Your Average Joe asks:
Hey Plant Trainers, coffee is not my jam. What other options do I have for a boost of energy?
Thanks for your question, Not Your Average Joe.
Coffee is not everyone’s cup of tea…or cuppa joe! Some people just don’t like the taste. Some people just get too jittery. And for some people, it just does not support their health. Depending on which category you are in there are several different ways to get a boost of energy throughout your day.
There are many different types of caffeinated teas you can try. White tea, green tea, black tea, and everything in between. Different teas have different levels of caffeine so you can try them out and see which ones suit you. Shoshana used to drink green tea every morning because it doesn’t make her jittery and because of all the extra health benefits that come along with it. When she found out about her adrenal fatigue, she gave up caffeine all together (with the exception of some chocolate here and there). Something to think about.
If you’re looking for foods to eat, try fruit or greens. Getting hydrated and upping those antioxidants will be like roosters in the morning, without the terrible “cock-a-doodle-dooing” in your ear.
Exercise is a great way to maintain healthy energy levels throughout the day. For some people exercising first thing in the morning is a great way to wake up and get going. Some people enjoy working out on their lunch break. This is a natural way to bring up your cortisol levels, get extra oxygen pumping throughout the body and stay fit. Even workouts later in the afternoon can help your overall health. They will therefore help you maintain constant energy levels through after work week.
Just moving throughout the day makes a huge difference on how tired you are. If you get up from your computer or your desk every 30-50 minutes and take a 5-minute walk or make yourself a cup of tea (herbal or caffeinated), or even have a small chat with a colleague while standing, when you go back to work your yawns will be put to sleep.
Here’s where you are going to have to work with us. Taking time out of your day to do something different. Go for a brief walk, read a few pages of your book, or even call a friend refreshes your brain so that you’re more creative and proficient when you go back to work. Even setting an alarm for some short meditations or quiet breathing throughout the day is a great way to get your energy rebooted.
